More than just a year…

Salutations for 2019! Somehow December slipped right by us and we missed writing a Christmas letter; I hope you’re alright with a new year’s letter. At the beginning of each year, I like to create a word or phrase to bring focus to my actions in the year. For 2018, my phrase has been, Be present, Be intentional, Be expectant. Oh boy, did it deliver.

It was a fun ride, I enjoyed the people I got to meet and work with

In February, my job offered the choice to relocate to Oklahoma City or retire. After weighing the options, we realized that the Pacific Northwest is home and we chose to retire with 29 ½ years of service to the United States. To celebrate, we took a trip to visit our friends in India. While there, our house sold quicker than we expected and for quite a bit more than we asked. With no job and no place to call home, we lived like nomads with no particular place to be. (A big THANK YOU to our friends who hosted us during this time). God supplied our needs and expenses as we put our possessions in storage and lived with friends during the time my retirement was being settled.

celebrating good times with good friends

With a tremendous head start on our retirement plans, we began to explore opportunities to serve communities and seek out full time ministry roles. We created Looks Like Coffee Consultants, a small business encouraging others through intentional, yet casual conversations. God’s faithfulness shined again as we were offered roles with the Billy Graham Evangelical Association and with Living Hope Christian Center in Madras, OR. In both of these roles, we are able to develop leaders, encourage others, and help them be who they are created to be.

We got the keys

In August, we moved into a house in Madras. It’s similar to our old house… but just different enough that I still get lost or walk into a different room than I expected. We are loving central Oregon and are looking forward to exploring all the state has to offer us. We are working on a few projects and hope we can travel as we complete them. We’ve committed to being in Oregon for at least a year and are expectant to see where God moves us next.

Thank you for all who have sent us your Christmas letters; some have been forwarded from our old address. Our new address is 838 SW Sunnyside Dr., Madras, OR  97741.

Remote Jefferson County

2018 was a wild ride and generated some high expectations for 2019. We are thankful for friends, old and new. Sadly, we had to say good bye to several others through this past year; we are blessed to have shared some good memories.

I love being us

Blessings to you in 2019, May God’s grace shine on you always and may His love flow through your heart and into your actions.

…Paul and Barnabas,… urged them to continue in the grace of God.                        Acts 13:43

We love you lots,

Mike and Kathy
